Myanmar targets 2 million tons of rice to be exported next year. Since many government rules have been lifted in Myanmar, procedures for export and import becomes simple, transparent and less transaction cost. The priority to Rice Specialized Company in obtaining export licenses has been lifted. The reduction of export tax from 10% to 2% is trigger to rice exporting. Rice export has increased from 500,000 metric tonnes in 2010/11 to 1.4 million tonnes in 2012/13. As the industry is getting strong, Myanmar targets 2 million tonnes of rice to be exported next year said Mr. Sein Win Hlaing, President of Myanmar Paddy Producers Association at the Asian Rice Forum held on the 29 August organized in connection with the Thailand Agricultural Expo 2014.
